why almost every successful people have routines.
let's travel back in time.
two years ago, when I'd just embarked on the so-called self development journey, as far as I could remember, my youtube recommendations was filled with "my productive morning routine" oozing from all sources. some even have the word "motivational" goes with it.
at that time, I was allergic to "motivational" things, I quitted it soon after. what I realized in the following months was that I'm not the kind of person who could work with a calendar except for using it to schedule for events. I just can't stand seeing chunks of my time dedicated to "that one task," I preferred flexibility.
however, it took me two and a half years to understand why people have routines, and why routines are highly efficient for long term "productivity."
before I tell you about that sweet stuff, I just want to whisper 2 secrets that probably no one told you in the self development path, because they were busy barking in motivational language.
how long you stick to self development, or how successful is your path is dependent on almost two things, and they're
learning to personalize the habits, routines and pretty much everything, and
learning to ignore the results you want
that's it. simple, right?
but simple things don't mean they're easy to do, however, they're a few tricks.
learning to personalize your path.
we're unique in terms of DNA, and most importantly, how we do things. so that means what that influencer said worked heavenly for him or her doesn't necessarily means it would work for you. you either try it, see if it works, change a bit, and see if it still works. after three or more attempts on things as such, probably just leave it and come back to it later, when you're a bit more thoughtful than before.
learning to ignore the results you want.
Mark Manson, in his Mindfucked Monday series, had it that "good things in life are self-evident." we don't bail our minds out to get that thing. the same thing works for things a lot of people want - happiness, success, a good job, a nice house, et cetera. let's get back to your chemistry class and think about this as a reaction. sometimes we focused too much on the byproducts than we should on the process, and that's exactly where things fuck up.
and the easiest way to not being immersed in something that you don't want to focus, is focus on something else, rather than doing nothing and trying not to think about a particular thought. it came anyways, so shut your doors and get busy with pretty much anything.
why routines, anyways?
routines, routines, routines. it's everywhere, it's driving me mad. why is everyone doing that?
think about it this way. say you have a chunk of money that automatically pops up after you wake up, and they expire within 24 hours, then they come back again, what would you do with them? you probably know what i'm talking about unless you're an idiot. yes, it's time.
some would choose to wake up and think about what they may do later, other people like to "preorder" rituals, habits, tasks that would go with their time. like 10 minutes of meditation everyday. 5 minutes looking at plants. 1 hour going to the gym. stuff like that.
and as time goes on, what you invest in will pay back to you, not as monetary profit but in other forms such as better mood and healthier body. that's so damn beneficial that people keep doing that although it's unpleasant at first. as the time you invested in it increased, the benefits multiples and you level of unpleasant feelings decreased, or at least get a bit lower than before since you're getting desensitized.
now that you got the reason, and the tips that go with it. would you fancy creating you one? it's not that hard.
start small, keep going, and you'll end up with something big in the end.
